ScourStop is a no-maintenance post-construction BMP.
* ScourStop is a semi-rigid, high-density polyethylene plastic mat (4 ft X 4 ft X 1⁄2 inch) designed with voids throughout the structure which enable vegetative growth. ScourStop is formulated with 10+ years, UV protection which colors it a dark green. Additionally, once vegetated, the mat is mostly shielded from the sun and undetectable – making it a permanent installation.

* ScourStop integrates vegetation with modern polymer material technology to mechanically protect the soil from scour and erosion until the shear forces have dissipated. This synergy of mechanical protection and vegetation enables this BMP system to resist much higher shear stresses and velocities than vegetation alone or rock rip rap.

* ScourStop is only one element of a channel protection BMP protecting the scour area; the other element of the BMP is the downstream channel protection. Sod and/or turf-reinforcement mats can carry the water load once expansion of the channel has enabled a decrease in the shear forces and velocity.

Our unique SBBFM is the very first Bonded Fiber Matrix product designed in Hawaii, and is the only Bonded Fiber Matrix on the market that incorporates technology designed specifically for Hawaii’s unique tropical climate. This product is the result of 12 years worth of experience in working with custom hydraulic mulching formulations and Bonded Fiber Matrix products in Hawaii.

It should be noted that our Straw-Based Bonded Fiber Matrix (SBBFM) has recently replaced other “mainland” Bonded Fiber Matrix products on several projects, such as the Army Corps of Engineer Drum Road Project on Oahu, the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Honokaia Pastoral Lots Subdivision and the Laiopua Villages Subdivision on the Island of Hawaii, and several phases of the Kukuiula Development project on Kauai (it is now their standard specification). In fact, the Straw-Based program has been approved for use by the State of Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources and has recently been specified for several Emergency Erosion Control Projects, such as the Round Top Drive Emergency Slope Repair Project and the Ka’a’awa Landslide Project.
